world health day 2018

World Health Day is celebrated on 7th April every year on its founding day since 1950. World Health Organization (WHO) is the agency of United Nations that started the celebration of World Health Day.

This day makes people understand the value of health. Health is Wealth…..it may be their own health as well as their family’s health. Embracing healthy and good habits like balanced diet, exercise, meditation,  yoga, etc can help improve the physical and mental health leading to a happy and contented life.

The theme for World Health Day 2018 is “Universal Health Coverage: everyone, everywhere”.

The slogan for 2018 World Health Day is “Health for all”.

Every year WHO decides and associates themes such as depression, food safety, good health, international health security, road safety, mental health, etc.

Health is important for everyone, especially the children. Children spend most of their time in school and they are unaware of the diseases that are contagious to which they may fall prey. It becomes crucial to educate students about healthy habits and about the importance of health in their daily routine.

To celebrate World Health Day, URWISH, spent qualitative time with school children today. Children who are usually unaware of health risks are vulnerable. Keeping this in mind URWISH, in its attempt to spread awareness hosted a lecture and some activities to educate them about the importance of healthy habits.

On 7th April, 2018, URWISH organised a number of activities involving pupils of grade 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 and encouraging them to undertake these with full zeal. Different activities based on the theme “healthy habits”, were accomplished in the form of Ad jingle, slogan writing, hand printing, poster making, debate, collage making, extempore and speeches. A well developed involvement of pupils was discerned. Pupils from each grade showed interest, eagerness and enjoyment in conducting the presentation and gave marvellous performances.

Our main focus was to give information about safe drinking water, how to keep food safe, avoid infections, maintain personal physical and mental hygiene and inculcate into them a concept of balanced diet, importance of nutrition and exercise, discouraging harmful habits like smoking.

In order to maintain good health food safety is important and people should observe and gain knowledge about the resources from where they are getting food and what they are consuming. Food safety is the symbol of good health.

In India we come across many people who do not follow proper food diet and nutrition, which leads to serious diseases affecting an individuals health.

Through the activities, pupils learned how to store their eatables cautiously and stay away from germs and infection.

Pupils with best presentation from each grade were awarded prizes and certificates as encouragement.
